Home Staging in Lancaster County: Going Coastal

When you think of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, coastal ideas do not come to mind. But this latest home staging project had a surprise twist! The streets were given seashore names. So, I decided to do a subtle ocean theme after the realtor said the first show-home was originally done in a beach theme. This home was such a blast to get ready for!

Very subtle themes in the living room. I carefully chose sand-tone chairs, pillows, and throws combined with some natural wicker and coastal themed books. I do think the wall could have used artwork, but I was cautious about how many nail holes we were making. I’m still using some inventory from the former Vintage & Co. store which is very convenient!

The homeowners light fixture gave me such inspiration with its curved, exotic look. For the table I chose an open bamboo pattern to reflect a similar style. The area rug also had a unique, bold pattern.

In the background you will see more beachy themes setting up a story yet to be told.

While the dining set is dark and romantic, the natural wood bowl filled with shells adds a quiet reminder of salt-water days hunting along the shoreline.

In true Vintage & Co. fashion, I painted this small sideboard with a distressed, salty vibe as a backdrop for the dining table and chairs. I took a trip to the beaches in Delaware and visited a fun co-op called The Brush Factory on Kings where I found the shore birds. I kept checking on them during the ride home to make sure the beaks were protected. I was checking on them so much that I ended up giving them names – Bert & Ernie!

Not everything was staged in a coastal theme. This fern bedspread filled the room with natural, earthy colors of green. The prints above the bed were also found in Delaware, which was a treasure for me, knowing they would go along perfectly!

The entryway was a fun glamorous compilation, with a bit of natural, weathered beachy items for accent. It all blended well together. The homeowner’s flooring choice was also a great foundation with the look of gray, distressed hardwood. The shore birds were a last-minute addition! I named them too -Thelma & Louise.

The main bedroom afforded me another opportunity for a subtle coastal display. Comforter and pillows in white with smaller pillows in accents of gray…nightstands in a light gray with shimmering aqua lamps. I added inviting wall art depicting a beach dune and seascape…I could almost hear the seagulls in the background. What luck it was to find a seahorse pillow too!

This floor vase with tall dried grass was found in Ocean City, NJ. It received a makeover of course; it was originally black with some unusual stems that I edited out. The burlap was a final added touch.

And I’ll leave you with this last bedroom. How cute is this white bed with the seashell comforter? It matched my sailboat wall art, pillow, and throw.

The opposite wall featured our sweet vintage vanity! I loved how the curves in the vanity matched the curves in the headboard and nightstand. (And the curves in the stool as well.)

This house was so rewarding as a home stager. The creative part is where I find all of the joy. I miss arranging furniture and displays in my former shop, but staging brings me right back to doing what I love!

Our next steps are going to be moving and arranging items in our storage facility. I have branched out on my own, working with other real estate agents and my inventory is growing. This is the behind the scenes of what goes into staging homes. I think it would make a great future blog post!

Stay tuned!
